St. Matthew's Names the Rev. Jami Anderson as Interim Dean

Updated: Aug 18, 2022

With an enthusiastic recommendation from Bishop Paul-Gordon Chandler and unanimous approval by the vestry, we are delighted to announce that the Rev. Jami Anderson will serve as our Interim Dean at St. Matthew's Cathedral.

The Rev. Jami Anderson feels deeply rooted in the community of Laramie, Wyoming. Born while her father was a law student at the University of Wyoming there has always been a draw to being in Laramie. Most of her childhood was in Cody, Wyoming but Laramie was the place for many family visits as both great-grandparents and grand-parents lived there. A family cabin outside of Centennial remains as a centering and beloved site in Rev. Anderson’s life. “I never dreamed I’d have the privilege and opportunity to serve and share in the life of the St. Matthew’s community in Laramie. It’s still amazing for me to think of it.”

Rev. Anderson received a BA from the University of Northern Colorado and a Masters degree in Education from the University of Wyoming, and then she and her husband John taught at the Wind River schools for several years. Later, while living in Kearney, Nebraska she attended and graduated from Seabury-Western Seminary (located at that time in Evanston, Illinois) and then served as the Rector of Episcopal churches in Holdrege and Arapahoe, Nebraska. In returning to Wyoming, she served as Rector at St. Andrew’s in the Pines in Pinedale for seven years, which included serving as the priest at St. John the Baptist in Big Piney for a couple of years as well.

She and John have four children, two sons and two daughters. Their oldest son Tad and his wife Brenna and two children live in Laramie. One of their two daughters lives in Denver, CO and the other in northern Montana. Their other son hopes to move to the Denver area soon coming from Oakland, California.

Both she and her husband look forward to moving to Laramie and taking part in the vibrant life of the church, plus the outdoor, cultural and educational opportunities found in the area.
